At Flying Rowan Farm, we prioritize quality by proudly raising Freedom Ranger and Kosher King broiler chickens for our community. We allow these slow-growing breeds time to mature, resulting in superior, tender muscling and a robust, succulent flavor. Although these birds require more time and investment to raise, once you taste the difference, the quality is evident.
Beyond their exceptional flavor, Freedom Rangers and Kosher Kings are active, hardy foragers that truly thrive when allowed to explore. Unlike breeds designed for confinement, these birds are well-suited for a life on pasture, where they can scratch for insects and graze on fresh greens. This natural environment not only aligns with their high-energy personalities but also contributes to a healthier, more nutrient-dense bird with a taste that reflects the quality of its outdoor life.
To maintain this standard, we raise our broilers on fresh pasture from February through October using Suscovich-style chicken tractors. These mobile shelters are moved daily, providing small batches of 20 to 25 chicks with constant access to clean ground and new forage while keeping them safe from predators. After 12 full weeks of growth, each batch is processed locally and brought to market fresh. You can purchase our chickens whole—perfect for bringing out a deep, smoky flavor in the smoker—or pre-cut into eight pieces for your convenience.

When days grow shorter, our birds take a natural break; we never use artificial lighting to force production. Our hens spend their days foraging on open pasture, supplemented by a specialized diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. By shortening the journey from nest to table, we ensure you receive the peak nutritional benefits of these fresh eggs before supplements begin to break down.
